Ashbourne Market survey

We’ve now registered our concerns at the closure of the Thursday Ashbourne market. Thankyou to the 244 marvellous supporters who put their signature to the petition. The petition was originally setup for 1 month – the minimum allowed by the website. This was because the planned meeting to discuss the closure was actually February. The creation of the petition and surrounding conversation persuaded the council to postpone their meeting for a further month and also therefore allowed the results to be known and presented at the meeting. The meeting is on 22nd March at Matlock.

We now need to help DDDC with the solution. They still have to find a way of making financial sense of markets and we need to find a solution which benefits Ashbourne stakeholders. Throughout the process participants have raised questions which we don’t know the answer to. I have put a simple survey together to try and validate some of the questions and challenges. Please take a few moments to complete the survey. I will of course publish the results.

I also intend to create a collaborative site for Friends of Ashbourne Market. This is a way of creating a dynamic forum to discuss ideas openly and to try and build concensus – I don’t know how it will work but I think it may be fun and enlightening. If anyone has any experience of using free tools for this (I’ve used Yammer but it needs business email addresses) please let me know
