Oh dear, what have I got myself into.
Every year on Shrove Tuesday, while the rest of Britain are emptying their cupboards and making pancakes, the town in Ashbourne in Derbyshire get together to play football. But it’s no ordinary game of football.
This game takes place across the whole town. The goals are three miles apart and players from north of the river (up-ards) take on players from south of the river (down-ards). I needed to check it out.
