To kick off my new blog I thought I’d start right on my doorstep with the celebrations of Derbyshire Day. Derbyshire has a Day?, I hear you ask. Oh yes. And it was today.
Derbyshire Day is BBC Radio Derby’s celebration of all things good from the county, first launched in 2007 to celebrate the anniversary of the creation of the Derbyshire flag in September 2006. This year’s event was held at Calke Abbey, one of my favourite local National Trust properties and the sun shone all day.
With free entry and free parking it was a popular event and deservedly so. There was plenty to see and lots for families, with a real focus on championing local businesses and showcasing the best of Derbyshire. We were entertained by the Calke Choir and the Derby Serenaders (marching band) and spotted Radio Derby presenters Sally Pepper and Andy Potter broadcasting live.
